Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle Fitted with Double Set Triggers and a Lyman 438-Field Scope re-chambered in .25-35 Winchester Center Fire, made circa 1898 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Winchester Model 1885 has a falling-block action, and two models were produced, the Low Wall and the High Wall. Ironically, this was Winchester’s first single shot rifle, the company having been founded on its winning lever action repeater design. John Moses Browning, the famed gun designer who forever changed the firearms landscape, began his career with this rifle in the 19th Century before dominating the world scene in the 20th Century.

The overall condition is good. This example is refinished. Strong action. Shiny bright bore with strong rifling. Solid stock with a repaired crack near the upper tang. Clear optic with a strong reticle. Markings are crisp. The is barrel sleeved and re-chambered to “.25.35”, as marked on the barrel. It is fitted with double set triggers and a Lyman 438-Field scope.
