EARLY 1885 HIGHWALL .38-55 OCTAGON RIFLE, #23XXX, MADE 1888

Description:
EARLY 1885 HIGHWALL .38-55 OCTAGON RIFLE, #23XXX, MADE 1888. Receiver is an even brown patina with excellent screws, 30” No.3 octagon barrel has a buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Rocky Mountain blade front sight. Barrel blue has aged and is mixing an uncleaned plum/brown. Fine butt stock with tight wood to metal fit and showing only normal light handling. Forend has the original ebony wedge in the schnable tip with one shallow sliver out of the forward portion of the left side upper edge. Very tight action with strong safety half-cock and fine markings. Bore is surprisingly excellent for such an early black powder Highwall. Nice 137 year old single shot Winchester in a great caliber.
