Very Interesting Boxed Winchester Model 1885
Description: This is a very interesting Winchester Model 1885 Rifle. The gun was made in 1893 and came into our office with a hand-made wood box, an original box of ammo with a few rounds, an original oiler bottle, and antique lock for the case. Also, we assume this gun was used for hunting purposes later in its life, because it came with an antique British knife and even an animal bone! The gun also comes with an extensive dossier of information about the gun's history. Included in the dossier is a Winchester factory letter that certifies the gun's authenticity and says it was shipped in 1893. The rest of the dossier claims that the gun was associated with the Northwest Transportation Company, which was apparently connected to Custer's 7th Cavalry and the Battle of Little Big Horn. There does not seem to be any solid connection we can make in the paperwork. The dossier also claims that the gun belonged to a soldier named Albert Johnson, a private in the Spanish American War. We also can't seem to make a solid connection with the paperwork provided. In any case, the gun is in decent condition for its age. It is functional and the gun is in tact. But the metal parts are covered in brown patina. The stock is in good condition, but there is splintering in the front and markings on the butt stock. The case is in fairly good condition but shows age. The dossier comes in a nice canvas pouch. The bore still has some rifling, but there is pitting throughout.
