Winchester 32-20 - MODEL 1885, FINE EXAMPLE OF J.M.BROWNINGS LOW WALL FALLING BLOCK, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1904, .32WCF, 7lb, LOP 13 3/8" Serial Number: 92582 Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this delightful Winchester Model 1885. Manufactured in 1904, this has all the hallmarks of earlier the 85s; it bears its patent information on the lower tang and it is correctly followed by a serial number in script. Its barrel markings are of the first type and the caliber of 32-20 are located on the top face of the 28" standard number 1 weight octagonal barrel. The thick side receiver on this rifle has a notch milled for use of low sights if desired and is historically correct for this gun. The Lyman Combination Peep sight with Pat, May 6/84 is fitted on the rear tang. This example has the second type of breech block with scalloped wings and the later type of hammer with curved bottom and straight top edge borders. Internally the bore is excellent and exhibits strong rifling. The frame has a pleasing overall silver gray patina that carries over to the underlever and compliments nicely with the blued barrel, itself showing just the right amount of contrasting edge highlights. The rifle is stocked with American straight grained Walnut furniture and finished with Winchester's crescent buttcap and an Ebony wedge inlayed schnabel forend. Weighing a perfect 7lb and a trigger breaking cleanly at 3.75lb, this rifle is well balanced and overall presents a very pleasing appearance. Winchester manufactured the 1885 from 1885 to 1920 and finished its run with some 140,000 rifles made. It was offered in more calibers than any Winchester gun before or since. The .32-20 Winchester, also known as .32 WCF, was the first small-game lever-action cartridge that Winchester produced. In the year 1904, Winchester produced just 425 Model 1885's. This is your opportunity to add this fine example of John Browning's famous falling block design to your collection. Enjoy.
