Description:
#4751 Winchester 1886 OBFMCB 38/56WCF with the standard 26” barrel having a very decent bore…at least a 7 and will likely clean easily to a “7-1/2”and also having a fine tight action. Serial range 15XXX (1888), standard trigger, standard sporting buckhorn rear sight and pinched blade front. The exterior is a fine smooth, crisp edged thin brown patina metal, no serious pitting or deficits and fine markings. Fine wood with almost unnoticeables and bruises and very little wear. This 38/56 cartridge was VERY popular in the mid-to-late 1880s when many people didn’t want or need the shoulder thumping 45/70, but then as Winchester Arms added more and more cartridges to the 1886 line-up, the somewhat anemic 38/56 then slipped away into obselesence. Nowadays, with this cartridge being available through Cowboy Action reloaders, this comfortable shooting caliber is once again gained some followers. A really decent late 1880s Winchester rifle. VG++ as described. $2550
