#4813 Winchester 1886 OBFMCB 38/56WCF, 38XXX range (manufactured in1890)
Description:
#4813 Winchester 1886 OBFMCB 38/56WCF, 38XXX range (manufactured in1890), G-VG bore and action, about a 6-7 on a scale of 10 now, but should clean much better. It has good rifling with average lead build up and scale in the grooves that should scrub out. Decent buttstock, tight fit to the metal with minor tang slivers, but also has amateurish non-factory checking which shows wear and likely could be sanded off if too objectionable. The buttplate has some rust scale on the heel from being left standing on a wet surface. The forearm has wear to the left front at the forearm cap (see photo), probably from ing against something, such as a wagon seat. VG+ metal, no pitting of any consequence, other than the mentioned buttplate, and overall just a thin dark grey-brown patina on the barrel, magazine and frame. Markings are very good, and there is a “G” stamped on the top barrel flat next to the frame junction; reason unknown. This once very popular old Winchester became a forgotten step-child because this cartridge went obsolete well before WW2. But now, 80+ years later and with the popularity of “Cowboy Action” shooting, this caliber with its mild recoil can easily be found at many on-line reload dealers where this caliber has gained in popularity again. About the average conditioned 1886 that can be found in gun shows nowadays, but such guns are usually well above $2200-$2400 now, so this one should be a very decent bargain. About VG as described. $1895
