Hawaiian Guard Issued Winchester 1886 Saddle Ring Carbine. Made in 1893. Nice sharp gun with a mostly gray patina on metal. Frame has trace amounts of case colors in protected areas. Gun is in 45-70. Bore is near excellent. Wood is nice and sharp and untouched. Both sides of the butt stock have Hawaii Mounted Patrol markings of an “H.M.P.” stamp. These guns were used in the rebellion of 1895. Loyalists to the queen attempted to overthrow the government that had essentially ousted the royal family from power and was heavily influenced by the United States. These guns seldom come to market. This gun was issued to Robert Grieve who was a member of the Hawaiian Mounted Patrol. He was listed as a book and job printer as a profession. Along with this gun comes documents and history relating to this gun, Mr. Grieve, and the Hawaiian mounted guard. Very neat rare identified piece!
