Serial number 101812. Made in 1896. 40-82 caliber with a 22" barrel. Metal has a mottled gray patina. All markings are legible. Wood is very good. There is a marking underneath the barrel address which reads “F nt PAR L CHOPERT ARQr R. LAFAYETTE PARIS" which is for ""arquebusier"" (or ""gunmaker"") on 16 Rue Lafayette in Paris. This gun made its way over to then French Indochina. It remained there until it was recovered by Lieutenant Colonel Richard Morgan. Along with this gun comes the original export paperwork from the Republic of Vietnam and a letter requesting information about it from Winchester. This is the only Vietnam Bring back Winchester we have ever see.
