1913 Winchester Model 1886 Lightweight Take-Down in .33 WCF Description: Nice honest Winchester Model 1886 Lightweight Take-down. John Browning's first high power lever action design, distinguishable by a vertical locking bar action. There were approximately 160,000 mfg. between 1886 and 1935. This is a later production gun manufactured in 1913. This rifle features a 24" inch rapid-taper (nickel steel) barrel with factory iron sights in place. The barrel has a very good bore with strong rifling and only minor frosting. This '86 is chambered in .33 WCF which earned a good reputation in it's day for taking deer, elk, and bear. Factory loadings pushed a 200 grain flat nosed bullet at 2200 feet per second; with modern powders this round can out-perform those numbers significantly. The receiver was originally finished blue from the factory but very little of that finish remains. This is common on later Model 1886's due to the high nickel content of the steel causing the blue finish to lose adhesion and flake off. The barrel retains 85 to 90% of the original factory blue finish, as does the half magazine tube and bolt. The steel forend cap and take-down ring match the condition of the receiver, with traces of the finish remaining. The areas of the rifle where the finish has worn or flaked off have an attractive appearance, appearing for the most part smooth with only some minor areas of very light pitting. This '86 has no extra holes and all of the screws appear to be original and in good shape. The stock set is a straight grip shotgun style butt with the original hard rubber buttplate. The stock set is in great shape with no cracks or repairs and only some minor handling marks. The original varnish is still intact and looks great. The Winchester branded hard rubber buttplate is also in great shape, free from cracks or repairs. If you have been looking for one of these American classics this take-down model would be an excellent choice. Whether stowed away in your collection or used for a decorator in your home, it should continue to be a great investment and is an important piece of American firearm's history.
