Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are very proud to offer this fine example of Winchester's large framed 1886 lever gun. This one has the takedown feature, and is chambered in the very desirable 40-82 WCF. Made in the year of our Lord 1905, all features are verified by the fine folks at the Cody Museum. She is in good condition for being 114 years old. The blue has drifted to patina and has thinned in places, but it must have received some good care. The stampings are good, too. The walnut is all there, albeit a bit blotchy with some handling marks and added varnish. There is some light chipping behind the upper tang. The bore of the 26 inch octagonal barrel is also good, with plenty of shine and strong rifling. She takes down in about 10 seconds, and locks back up just as fast. The smooth and crisp action works as designed, including the half cock safety. This model was the first John Browning design adopted by Winchester, and was a welcome replacement for the aging 1876 model. Built for strength to handle ever more powerful loads, the receiver was machined from a solid bar of steel weighing over 40 ounces. These big lever guns are always increasing in value, and only 160 thousand were made. Let's look at value. I see Albert Peterson has a very nice example for 12,000 dollars, and a few solid frame guns for about 5000. None have Cody verification. I will list this one for less. If you have been looking for the right Winchester 1886 to collect or for investment, but want the added clout of a takedown 40-82, then look no further.
