SPECIAL ORDER Winchester Model 1886 DELUXE Rifle with Interesting Cody Sheet
Description: Winchester Model 1886 rifle, serial number 145077 with interesting Cody Museum info sheet, which states that this rifle started life as a 38-56 caliber with round barrel, plain trigger, plain pistol grip stock, Rocky Mountain front sight, 1/2 magazine, received in and shipped from the warehouse on November 16, 1911 to order number 341397. Rifle was returned on December 12, 1911 on order number 39379 but kept in the same configuration and shipped again on December 13, 1911 to order number 345057. The rifle was returned again on February 13, 1912 and sat around until September 4, 1913 (a year and a half !!) until it was changed to its current configuration, which is a 33 caliber rifle with 24" round barrel, plain trigger, shotgun butt, rubber butt plate, 1/2 magazine, checkered pistol grip stock with oil finish, and shipped September 6, 1913 to order number 528662. Quite a history and seldom do the factory records show this much activity. Cody Museum email sheet is shown in the past picture and will be included with the rifle for the buyer. CONDITION: Receiver has 90% brilliant bright blue on both sides and on the lower tang. Upper tang and underside of receiver have turned patina from the typical carry wear. Barrel and 1/2 mag tube retain 85% bright blue starting to thin and tone. Deluxe fancy burl walnut stocks are in excellent condition showing only a few light scratches, no extra holes, tight and even with the metal. Original hard rubber Winchester logo butt plate has a very small chip missing at the toe. Original style H checkering is all there and still quite sharp with no gaps, just lightly worn from carry and thankfully never freshened. Original ramp front sight base holds a Marble Sheard copper bead sight. Rear sight is a later Winchester 22G. The sights and the two neatly-filled holes in the receiver for a Lyman or Redfield peep sight are the only non-factory items on this rifle. Excellent bright shiny bore with no pitting and no frost. Action is smooth and crisp with working half cock safety. Rifle has been test-fired and it feeds, fires and functions as it should (great shooter using Buffalo Arms 33 WCF ammo). Grades NRA Modern Very Good. Fine, affordable deluxe Winchester 1886 that would be worth double my asking price without the non-factory alteration. Heck, the fancy checkered stocks are worth my asking price alone - if you think I'm crazy, get a quote from Turnbull Restorations on a set! TERMS: No international sales. Must ship to FFL or C&R licensee (shipments within New York State must be to an FFL ONLY). Please be aware of what is legal in your state. 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Payment by bank check, personal check or money order. All major credit cards accepted with 4% convenience fee added. Shipping will be USPS Priority Mail with tracking and insurance.
