Winchester model 1886, 40-82 WCF caliber (Heavy Barrel)
Description:
Factory research lists this rifle with all correct features but the barrel does not list as heavy. Patent date is stamped Oct. 14, 1884; JAN. 20, 1885, records indicate gun was manufactured September 25, 1888. This is a very rare example of a factory heavy barrel 1886 rifle in caliber 40-82 WCF. The top of the barrel flat is almost flush to the top of the frame and measures 26" in length. Another special order extra is the set trigger. Other features include a full magazine, blade front site, buckhorn rear sporting site with walnut stocks and rifle butt. The barrel is a smooth mix of light factory blue and grey patina. The tube is basically a mix of patina and gun metal. The case colors on the frame, hammer, lever have basically nickeled out and softened to gun metal tone. The stock is in excellent condition with normal use light dings. The stock is flush to metal and there appears to be a superficial fissure on right side of stock. The stock is firm and the fissure is tight. The action is crisp and tight and the bore shows well defined riflings with minor abrasion. The extra heavy barrels were only available as a special order feature and are not available on several models. The 1886 was built for heavy game and a few of the old buffalo shooters swore by them.
Ground shipping and handling cost to the lower 48 states is extra. No ship to CA, NJ
This firearm is sold as a collectors item only and we make no quarantees to its quality or functionality. This rifle should be checked and approved by a qualified gunsmith before attempting to fire. Please know and abide by your local laws in regards to purchasing firearms and ammunition.
