Winchester Model 1886 45-70 Extra Lightweight Rifle
Description: Winchester Model 1886 extra lightweight rifle, serial #128334, 45-70, 22'' nickel steel barrel with 1/2 magazine tube and a near excellent bore, there are a few small areas of very light frosting. The barrel and tube retain about 65% original blue, the barrel has thinned to a pewter gray patina at the breech showing gradually stronger blue toward the muzzle, there are signs of darker blue in the protected areas, silvering at the muzzle and a few light handling marks. The receiver retains about 50% blue finish with a belly and edges toned to shades of silver patina, a hammer and lever showing a few hints of case-hardened color, handling marks and some scattered light freckling. The smooth walnut stocks are very good, there are a few handling marks, a light coat of added varnish and a small 1/4'' crack to the left of the top tang, no extra holes, with correct hard rubber butt plate. The receiver mounted sight is a Climbin' Lyman 21 correctly marked "N", the rear sight is a 6A Lyman folding leaf sight and the front sight is an ivory bead Lyman #4 hunting sight (in all, about $700 worth of sights alone). Factory records indicate the rifle was received in the warehouse on August 17, 1903 and shipped from the warehouse on August 31, 1903 to order number 199166. Copy of Cody Museum email sheet will accompany the rifle. Very nice collector and shooter grade Model 1886 in the right caliber. No international sales and no sales to California.
