Winchester Model 1886 45-70 Special Order Extra Lightweight Rifle
Description: Winchester Model 1886 rifle in the best of calibers, the 45-70. This rifle is serial # 136499 and was manufactured in 1905. It is a special order rifle consisting of a 22" nickel steel (smokeless in factory records) extra lightweight barrel with correct ramped front sight, 1/2 magazine, takedown, plain pistol grip, shotgun butt with correct rubber buttplate, Lyman #4 "hunting" front sight, and 22 series semi buckhorn rear sight. Has a total of nine special features! It has an excellent bore and is a fantastic shooter. I shot it with both Remington factory loads and Hornady LeveRevolution factory loads; it held half-dollar-sized groups at fifty yards. Overall metal has about 40-50% blue mixed with patina; the bottom of the receiver has silvered out, typical from carry wear. Traces of case colors remain on the hammer; the lever case colors have silvered out. The original stocks retain some of the original varnish and show normal use from carry and hunting. Other than the sliver missing at the receiver on the shooter's left, there are no chips or cracks. Also, thank goodness, no extra swivel holes and have not been sanded or refinished. All markings are correct and unaltered. Matching assembly numbers appear on the lower tang and the upper inletting of the buttstock. All screw heads are in very good shape and have not been buggered. Correct pistol grip cap is intact. The takedown is still super-tight and functions properly, has correct patent-dated lever. The half-cock safety also functions as designed. Overall this rifle is a great collectible and will sure to increase in value, while having a condition that you won't be afraid to take out and hunt with or shoot at the range. Open to fair offers. $75 shipping within CONUS includes insurance. Thanks for looking.
