26" OCTAGON TO ROUND BARREL, 2-LEAF FOLDING REAR SIGHTS, LYMAN OFF-WHITE BEAD TIPPED BLADE FRONT SIGHT, PISTOL GRIP WITH GRIP CAP, 13-1/4" LOP, WINCHESTER HARD RUBBER BUTT PLATE, 8 LBS 4 OZ

An antique lever action rifle. The 26-inch octagon to round blued steel barrel is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge and is built with a barrel mounted 2 leaf folding rear sight (first leaf has a squared-off top with a diamond insert on face and the second leaf is a V-notch) and a Lyman off-white bead tipped blade front sight marked "LYMAN'S PAT. OCT. 6. 95". Top of the barrel is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U. S. A" and near the receiver "45-70". The frame's lower tang has the rifle's serial number and "PAT. OCT. 14, 1884" and "JAN. 20. 1885". The reddish-brown checkered walnut stock with pistol grip is nicely figured and features a hard rubber grip cap marked "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.". The walnut forearm is similarly figured and checkered to a metal cap. The length of pull is 13-1/4" to a hard rubber Winchester butt plate marked "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO."
