Description:
26 inch octagon barrel chambered in the scarce 40-70 WCF caliber. Research on the Model 1886 done by John T. Madl says only 862 were produced in .40-70 W.C.F. Bore has good rifling and fine roughness throughout. May clean up. Sights include a German silver blade front and sporting rear. Barrel and full length magazine tube are a thinning plum/brown color with good traces of blue in the protected areas. Forend cap has silvered out. Case colored receiver is silver/gray color with traces of colors on the hammer and lever. Crisp tight action. Walnut stock set is in good condition with the usual dings and handling mars. A couple of chips where wood meets the frame. Manufactured in 1891. Although this gun looks like it has been this way for decades, the factory letter says this Winchester left the factory as a 40-82 caliber rifle with octagon barrel. Today it is a 40-70 WCF rifle with octagon barrel. Your opportunity to add a scarce caliber Winchester Model 1886 to your collection. This is a hard one to find!
