Antique WINCHESTER 1886 Lever Action .38-56 WCF Rifle
Manufactured in 1889
Here we present a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle, made in 1889 in New Haven, Connecticut. The 1886 was a collaboration between John Moses Browning and his brother, Matthew Sandifer Browning, to build a big game rifle to replace the Model 1876. This was Browning’s first repeating rifle design adopted by Winchester, and the design even gained the endorsement of Theodore Roosevelt, formerly a staunch proselyte of the 1876.
This rifle features a 26-inch octagon barrel chambered for .38-56 WCF. The top of the barrel is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.” The breech is marked “.38-56 W.C.F.”
The serial # is 119905 indicating it was made in 1889.
The overall condition is very good. The blue finish on the barrel is in good shape. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in nice shape. The bore is very good with strong rifling. The action on this rifle is excellent. The factory sights are also in great condition.
