ONE OF THE LAST OF THE GREAT MODEL '90s IN DESIRABLE .22 LONG RIFLE
Description: ONE OF THE VERY LAST OF THE GREAT MODEL '90s IN DESIRABLE .22 LONG RIFLE! This rifle is in the 807XXX serial range which puts this one in the “Parts Clean-Up” category of production for this model. At the end of 1932 with serial number 747962 the Great Depression nearly killed production so that when manufacturing stopped for this model in 1941 the serial number was only at 752044! After that numbers were chosen almost at random with anything in the eight hundred thousand range being guns put together from existing parts inventory. What’s interesting about this rifle is that the barrel has both the “mail-order” proof mark PLUS the Winchester proof. This indicates that Winchester took a replacement barrel out of their mail-order inventory and used it to make a complete rifle for final sale. Obviously, no parts were going to waste! I’ve seen this on other high serial number parts clean-up rifles. Crescent butt plate secured by two Phillips head screws that look factory. This one retains fine deep barrel blue with a BRIGHT, EXCELLENT BORE, bottom half of the mag tube is turning brown with nice blue on the upper half, receiver blue is good in the more protected areas with the balance an uncleaned plum and brown, small blade front sight with folding rear sight and a Lyman tang sight that probably had a screw-in eye disc at one time (NO extra holes hidden underneath), fine butt stock with light handling marks only and good wood to metal fit, exc. forend, exc. markings including the late “MODEL 90 .22 LONG RIFLE” barrel marking and tight mech. A rare variation in a great caliber SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Winchester Model: MODEL 90 Serial Number: 807xxx Caliber Info: .22LR Condition: FINE Barrels: 24" OCT. |
