1909 Vintage Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine in .32-20 WCF
** Rare Export Model! **
Description:
This is a handsome and all-original "Export Model" Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in .32-20 WCF that was manufactured in 1909. Long known as one of the original classic "cowboy" lever-action rifles in the United States, the Winchester 1892 is sought-after by collectors all over the world. Introduced in 1892 and offered in both rifle and carbine models, the Winchester Model 1892 was chambered in the typical pistol calibers popular at the time with the idea that a man could carry both a revolver and rifle but only have to carry one type of ammunition. Having a rifle or carbine gave the user both extended range and much greater accuracy which was very important when the weapons you carried day to day would likely save your life at some point, whether by taking game to eat or fighting off someone intending to do you harm. This particular example is Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine that was made for export to another country. It can be identified as such by the upper tang stamp where Winchester stamped "Mod" over "1892" perpendicular to the tang right behind the hammer, rather than in-line with the address that runs parallel with the tang. It does not have any proofs from any other country on it, so if it actually was exported somewhere outside of the U.S. it was to a country that doesn't have proof laws and somehow made it back to the States. It came from the factory with a gloss-blue finish, a 20" inch round barrel, the receiver-mounted saddle ring, factory iron sights consisting a front blade and a flip-up ladder-style rear adjustable for elevation, a 9-round under-barrel tubular magazine, and a smooth American Walnut stock set with a blued steel barrel band and buttplate. This carbine has been used and carried and shows wear consistent with it's age. As you can see from the pictures, there is still a good deal of the original blue finish on the receiver sides, sections of the barrel, the tubular magazine, and the upper and lower tangs, but the balance of the metal shows varying wear with a mix of very faint gray/blue to flat gray bare metal. There are some small scattered areas of shallow pitting as well, with patches showing mid-barrel, on the lever, and on the receiver. All in all, the patina on the metal parts of this Winchester is exactly what you would expect to see on a used 1892 SRC of this age. The original stock set on this Winchester is in good shape overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. There are some scattered handling marks and dings/dents, but no bad spots or eyesores. Both the forearm and buttstock are solid original parts, and they are a perfect match to each other in every way. The action on this Winchester is smooth and slick but still tight. While the exterior shows some wear and age, the internals are in superb shape. There is no lever droop and when locked into battery everything is perfectly tight. All of the controls are in perfect working order. The bore in the 20" inch barrel is very good, bright and clean. The rifling is still sharp and well-defined with only a touch of frosting in the grooves. This 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine should still fire just as reliably and accurately today as it did 112 plus years ago when it left Winchester. If you have been looking for a unique and rare 1892 variation to add to your collection and like patina guns, this "Export Model" Winchester 1892 SRC in .32-20 would be a superb choice.
