Antique 1892 Winchester. Octagon Barrel. 44-40. Very Fine Bore.
Description: SOLD...Antique 1892 Winchester with octagon barrel in the caliber 44-40. Here is a decent and honest antique 1892 Winchester. It has an octagon barrel and is in the very sought after 44-40 caliber.. The S/N is 25706 so is very early 1893 production. The bore is very fine. Not quite excellent but very close. It has strong rifling all the way through and stiil has some shine.. It have VERY light roughness and is mostly just lightly frosted and not pitted at all. NO rings or bulges. Just a well above average bore for this very early 92. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine will NO bulges cases or back out primers. The metal is a smooth medium gray to brown patina. Just a little bit of roughness on the mad tube and is not piited into the metal but mostly surface crud. The rest of the gun is smooth with no roughness or pitting. Has the original rear sight with a later period elevator and the front sight is original with an ivory bead. All the markings are very good to excellent as you can see in the photos. The screw heads are not all burred up from tinkering. Has the early original heart shaped or tear drop hammer knurling. The butt stock has been repaired on both sides between the upper and lower tang as you can see. It is darker in this area. It has cracks on both sides from the repair but is solid as a rock with no movement or looseness at all. Would probably stay this way for ever as long as you did not use it as a club.. Could easily be repaced as well and would add to the value of the gun if you could find a nice used one. NO other cracks or chips in the stock and it fits fairly tight to the metal all around The forearm is better with no cracks or chips missing but has a couple goudges on the bottom in front of the reciever. It fits tight to the metal at the reciever and the end cap and still has traces of the original varnish so never messed with or sanded on. These larger caliber early antique 92's are getting harder to find any more at reasonable prices. This one is priced right I think taking in fact that the stock has bee repaired. I am getting in more and more of these antique Winchester 92's, 94's and 86's that flat out will not function like they are suppose to. I am running out of good original parts to repair them as they don't make them any more. I just do not know on how many more of these models I will be dealing in and will have for sale and they will be more $$$ if I do. Better get'em now while they are still reasonable if you are a shooter and not a wall hanger. $50 insured mail. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. SOLD Antique: Yes |
