Antique 1892 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine. 44-40 Caliber. Good Bore. Honest Never Fooled With SRC.
Description:
SOLD...Antique 1892 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine. A nice and honest 92 SRC. In the very sought after 44-40 caliber. Has the standard 20” round barrel. S/N is 104961 and made in 1895 by the Madis book. This is a most honest ole 92 SRC and has never been cleaned on or messed with in any way. The bore is good and still shootable. It does have some light roughness from black powder but no big craters, rings or bulges. It shows rifling all the way through. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. No bulges cases or backed out primers. The metal is an untouched medium to dark brown patina... No pitting and never cleaned on or messed with. Still has both the original front and rear sights. Also the original saddle ring. Excellent markings. The wood is very nice on this ole 92. the forearm has a very small and tight grain split at the front of the rear barrel band is very common on these SRC's. { see photo }.. The wood is very thin in this area and is easily split over time from use. No other spits or cracks and just shows honest wear, dings and scratches. Fits very tight to the metal with no gaps and shows some saddle and carry wear at the front of the receiver as is very common.. The butt stock is very nice with no splits or cracks. Fits perfectly tight with no gaps and shows just honest wear, dings and scratches. No chips or missing wood at the butt plate at the toe or the top. Just real nice and honest wood on this gun and never sanded on or messed with... All the markings are excellent and very clear and not worn off or missing. It is missing the main spring tension screw on the bottom tang. { see photo }. I will have this replaced before it sells. Just noticed this when taking the photos. The screws heads are all still good and serviceable and not all burred up but do show some turning but nothing bad at all. Just a nice and very honest 92 SRC for an honest price. Getting harder to find these 92's that are not used to death with good bores. Most of these as you know have seen a lot of hard and heavy use but this one has survived without being molested and abused over all these years.. I think John Wayne, Matt Dillon, Chester and Festus wore most of these out in the 60's and the 70's !!!! $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
