Description: Antique WINCHESTER 1892 Lever Action .38 WCF Rifle Second Year Production Made in 1893 Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle in .38 WCF, made in 1893 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years. The top of the barrel reads “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A”. The rear sight is from a Savage rifle and is marked “SAVAGE ARMS CO. PATENT APP’D FOR”. The breech end of the barrel is marked “38WCF”. The receiver tang is marked “MODEL 1892 -WINCHESTER- PAT. OCT.14.1884”. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have turned a dark, even plum over the last 125 years. The markings are legible. The walnut stock has been sanded and there is a sliver on each side of the fore end cap. The stock remains solid otherwise. The bore is in fair condition with clean surfaces and good rifling with the exception of a single slender ring of pitting mid-barrel. The action is strong.
