Antique Winchester Model 1892 38 WCF Rifle, Mirror Bore
Description: This is an antique Winchester Model 1892 octagon barrel rifle in caliber 38 WCF aka 38-40, serial # 119xxx, manufactured in 1896, standard configuration with 24" barrel, full magazine and crescent butt. Mirror bore, easily a 9 of 10. Barrel and mag tube exhibit 90% original deep blue starting to tone to plum. Hammer and lever show muted case colors. Lower tang, lower part of receiver, and lower half of left side of receiver show 80% deep original blue. Poor storage (water or blood) pitted the right side of receiver, loading gate, and upper half of left side of receiver and is too deep to buff out. Fore stock is sound and tight, no splits or cracks, no extra holes, just a few normal dings. Butt stock shows light wear loss at toe, normal dents and dings, small split at upper left corner by tang/receiver junction, no extra holes. Stocks have never been sanded or refinished. Action is strong and half-cock safety seems to function properly. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. All parts and sights are correct. Original steel butt plate shows hints of original color and has just mild surface oxidation, no deeper pitting as the receiver has. Should be checked by a competent gunsmith if being shot. All in all a solid specimen and in the tough to find antique serial range. No FFL or C&R necessary. Can ship directly to you if your local laws allow, copy of valid driver's license required.
