HIGH CONDITION 1892 SEMI-DELUXE 22" FACTORY SHORT RIFLE, PISTOL GRIP, 2/3 MAG, SGB, NICKEL STEEL BARREL
Description: 1892 WITH GREAT CONDITION AND GREATER RARITY! SEMI-DELUXE .38-40 FACTORY 22 INCH ROUND NICKEL STEEL BARREL SHORT RIFLE WITH PLAIN PISTOL GRIP, 2/3 MAGAZINE AND SHOTGUN BUTT, #885XXX, MADE 1920! Any one of these special order features would be considered rare on a Model 1892, but combined together make this a super rare and unusual rifle indeed! This rifle features the correct one inch shorter forend measuring 8 3/8” where the standard 24” rifle forend measures 9 3/8.” This authenticates the shorter barrel proving it is not merely cut down. The 1892 was more of a utilitarian rifle than those Winchesters of larger caliber- like the Model 1894- and as such it is very unusual to find rifles with pistol grip stocks, shotgun butts etc. This fine Short Rifle retains about all the blue on the sides of the receiver and loading gate with only some light thinning. The receiver ring and bolt also retain good blue and the receiver bottom blue is thinning but not totally gray as usually found. Barrel and magazine blue is excellent with only a hint of plum from age and has the rare special order Nickel Steel Especially for Smokeless Powder marking. Screws are excellent as is the stock and forearm which shot tight wood to metal fit. The pistol grip has the correct Winchester embossed hard rubber grip cap along with an excellent hard rubber Winchester embossed butt plate. Sights consist of the usual buckhorn and Winchester blade front sight along with a Lyman tang sight. Action is tight and bore is excellent. Most of the pistol grip 1892s that I've seen have been in .25-20 caliber. One in .38-40 increases the unusualness of this rifle by a multiple. A super rare and high condition 1892. I don’t expect to see another exactly like this one!
