Description:
Winchester 1892 .32 WCF lever action rifle 24" Octagon barrel (Manu. 1907)

Manufactured in 1907
THE LEGENDARY WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 Caliber: .32-20 WCF (.32 Winchester Center Fire) 24 " Octagon Barrel Price: $1,899.00 There are old rifles, and then there are rifles that helped build America. Offered here is an original Winchester Model 1892 chambered in the famous .32-20 Winchester Center Fire cartridge. Manufactured in 1907 during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt, this rifle was built during what many historians consider America's Golden Era. It was a time when the Panama Canal was under construction, Yellowstone and Yosemite were becoming treasured national parks, and America was emerging as a world power. This rifle was built before the nation entered World War I and during an age when cowboys, ranchers, lawmen, and frontiersmen still relied on lever- action rifles as essential tools of daily life. It was built when men were men, and when there was no backup to call. In tough situations, a man often had to rely on his rifle, his horse, his judgment, and his courage. One cannot help but wonder where this rifle has traveled during its 119- year journey. It likely rode in wagons, ranch trucks, and perhaps even one of the earliest Model T Ford trucks crossing the countryside. It may have spent many miles in a saddle scabbard, carried by a hardworking rancher, cowboy, frontiersman, lawman, or even a Civil War veteran living out his later years on the frontier. And one has to wonder, how many families did this rifle help feed in hard times? The Winchester 1892 was designed by the legendary John Moses Browning and is widely regarded by collectors as one of the finest lever- action rifles ever produced. Many enthusiasts consider it Browning's masterpiece, praising its strength, reliability, and silky-smooth operation. Smooth as glass. This example remains remarkably honest and original. Features include: • Original 24-inch octagon barrel • Original front and rear sights • Original forearm • Original markings remain crisp and sharp • Excellent bore with strong, clean rifling estimated at over 90% • Original bluing remains in protected areas and has aged into a beautiful, honest patina • No pitting • No deep gouges or abuse • Refinished buttstock from years of saddle and field use, much as many working cowboys would have done • One screw missing from the crescent buttplate This rifle has never been buffed, polished, or reblued. It wears the honest character that serious collectors appreciate. THE FAMOUS .32-20 WCF The .32-20 cartridge earned a reputation across the American West for accuracy, economy, and versatility. Many cowboys carried both a revolver and rifle chambered in .32-20, allowing them to use the same ammunition for both firearms. The cartridge offered excellent accuracy with less recoil, less noise, and less powder consumption than larger cartridges such as the .44-40. Compared with the .44-40, the .32-20 was also considerably less expensive to buy and reload. That made it a practical choice for ranchers, farmers, hunters, and families who needed a reliable rifle that could be used often without wasting money or ammunition. For generations it helped: • Put meat on the table • Protect ranches and livestock • Dispatch predators and varmints • Keep bandits away It was the choice of many expert shooters who valued precision, economy, and usefulness over brute force. As many old-timers said, the .32-20 would do nearly everything a rancher needed while costing less to feed. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE This rifle was manufactured during the age of: • Theodore Roosevelt • The construction of the Panama Canal • The aftermath of the Spanish-American War • The expansion of America's national parks • The final years of the Wild West This was the same rough and changing era when sheriffs, marshals, ranchers, and working men still carried rifles as necessary tools. In places like McHenry, Illinois and frontier towns across America, lawmen often had no telephone, no radio, and no easy way to call for help. If trouble came, they had to face it with courage, a club, or a firearm. Frontiersmen and western legends such as Buffalo Bill Cody, Wyatt Earp, and many renowned cowboys helped define the era in which rifles like this were used, respected, and trusted. Its reputation became legendary. Today, the Winchester Model 1892 remains one of the most respected lever-action rifles ever produced. MAGAZINE CAPACITY Typical Winchester Model 1892 rifles chambered in .32-20 with a 24-inch barrel generally hold approximately: • 13 rounds in the tubular magazine • 1 round in the chamber Total Capacity: 14 rounds FINAL THOUGHTS Finding an honest, unaltered Winchester 1892 with excellent bore condition, strong markings, original components, and authentic frontier character becomes more difficult every year. Whether displayed in a Winchester collection, carried during a cowboy- action event, or simply admired as a tangible piece of American history, this rifle would be a proud addition to any Winchester collection. A rifle that once helped tame the frontier. A rifle that may have helped feed families through hard times. A rifle that rode through the final years of the Wild West. A rifle built when Theodore Roosevelt was president. A rifle that still tells its story more than a century later.
