Winchester 1892 in 25-20 ~ Special Order Takedown ~ Pistol Grip ~ 1/2 Octagon 24" Barrel
Description:
"I'll consider reasonable offers on a single or a multiple gun purchase." Please look at my other listings. The guns I'm listing haven't been on the market for many years.
Winchester "Special Order" Model 1892 "takedown" in 25-20. Pistol grip stock and 1/2 octagon 24" barrel. All original rifle except sights (original sights included). Serial number 753596, mfg. 1914. The receiver and lever retain 80-85% blue. The takedown in front of receiver has turned mostly silver with hints of color. The barrel and takedown retain 80-85% blue. The bore has a little roughness and rates 7/10. The stocks are in very nice unsanded condition with a few rubs and scrapes. The front left forend has a small crack coming from a bruise. It's completely stable. Other than that, the stocks have no cracks or missing pieces of wood. The pistol grip stock and forend fit perfect and is proud at the metal. The takedown works as designed and is tight with zero movement. All mechanics work as designed. The top flat has thinned where the original Winchester 22A sight was. Included with the rifle is an original 22A rear sight and an original 21A front sight. The installed very nice hard to find vintage sights include a Lyman Patent folding rear 2 leaf sight, Lyman 1A DA folding/locking peep sight and a vintage Lyman No.17 "Lyman, "Reg. U.S. Pat. Off." marked hooded front sight.
Winchester 1892 special order rifles are rare when compared to the total number of 92's produced. The total production was 1,004,675 rifles, carbines and muskets. George Madis states out of the this total production only 613 had part round barrels,1,728 had pistol grip stocks and 1,403 were takedown rifles. This rifle has all three of these options which makes it a rare Winchester 1892. Less than 17% of the total production were in the 25-20 caliber.
Several different gentlemen with the "Winchester Arms Collectors Association" are surveying the various models of pre-war Winchester's. The gentleman surveying the 1892 takedowns states he has surveyed about 800 of them since 2001. Only 8 out of the 800 have non-checkered pistol grip stocks. Of those 8, this is the only 1/2 octagon barrel in the survey. So with almost 60% of the 1892 takedowns accounted for, this is the only 1892 takedown surveyed with a non-checkered pistol grip stock and half octagon barrel. Extremely rare indeed. Possibly the only one made.
Will give 3 day non-firing inspection. Please let me know if you need additional pictures or have a question.
Shipping is $35 to lower 48. Must ship to FFL or C&R license. Payment by certified check. Will accept PayPal with a 3% surcharge.
