We are offering a VERY RARE Winchester Model 1892 chambered in 44 W.C.F. This particular rifle appears to have been a test fire gun at the U.S. Cartridge Company and is marked on the left side of the receiver “U.S.C.Co. #394-1.-9.-08.” Serial number dates this gun to a 1906 manufacture date.
24” Octagon barrel is quite attractive, retaining most of its original bluing with scattered surface wear. Bore is clean and bright with very light wear; Strong rifling. Muzzle wear. Barrel has been drilled and tapped four times (most likely done by USCCo. for sighting). Adjustable rear buckhorn sight, Front blade with flip-up white dot. Full magazine tube. Receiver is very good, having the USC CO marking on left side. There are some light surface marks, blue loss, patina. Case hardened hammer, lever turning a plum brown. Furniture is still attractive. Shoulder stock shows some wear; a couple closed cracks on bottom edge near crescent butt plate; stock remains strong. Fore-end shows some handling marks. Overall a very clean example!
