Description: Offered for your consideration is this vintage 1892 Short Rifle in 44-40 wcf made in 1912 with the 20 inch factory octagon barrel. All dimensions are correct for a factory short rifle, the muzzle measures .710 inches across the flats. It is mechanically excellent, feeds, chambers and ejects smoothly. The blue has turned to a plum blue patina. The bore is near excellent and will be a fine shooter. I rate the bore a solid 8 to 8.5 on a 10 scale. Sights are period Marbles, something I frequently see as the original Winchester sights didn't give as good a sight picture as the Marbles. The stocks are black walnut and show some very nice fiddleback grain in the buttstock. No cracks, bad dents or extra holes and the wood is flush+ around the tangs. Looks like a coat of varnish was added sometime in the past but not sanded down. Overall a solid, tight vintage Winchester 1892 with no issues that I see. It's been used but not abused. My Nikon seems to magnify every little detail ten fold, there is minor scattered pin point pitting that's barely noticeable with the rifle in hand but looks pronounced in some of the photos - it's not! $40.00 insured UPS to your C&R or FFL. 3 day inspection, of course. Let me know if you need additional photos or information. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
