1896 Vintage Winchester Model 1894 w/ Button Magazine, Octagon Barrel, & 3-Leaf Express Rear Sight
** Cool Early Winchester '94 ** SOLD
Description:
This is a very neat antique Winchester Model 1894 chambered in .30-30 Winchester made in 1896 with a 20" inch octagon barrel, a half magazine or "button" magazine, and an express rear sight. This Model 94 has obviously seen some use over the last 120 plus years but is still 100% functional. We were able to find out that the octagon barrel and button magazine are original to the gun, but there is no record of the barrel length or the special order factory rear sight. It appears that it may have been shortened at some point and the front sight dovetail re-cut. As you can see from the pictures, the original factory blue finish still looks very good on the barrel but shows a good deal of finish wear and patina on the receiver. You will also notice that this Winchester has been fit with a "Climbing Lyman" receiver sight at some point that left a tell-tale wear pattern that has since been removed. The bore in this Model 94 is dark throughout but still shows rifling and should still shoot accurately. The original smooth Walnut stock set is in good condition overall, showing wear consistent with the gun but free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. All of the stock hardware is intact and original, including the factory forearm cap and magazine button. This Winchester seems to be in excellent mechanical condition. The action is smooth and precise without any slop, and locks up tight when closed. All in all, this is a very neat old Winchester Model 1894 with some really neat factory special order features. It would make a great addition to any antique Winchester collection.
