1918 Vintage Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine in .30 WCF
Description:
If you have been looking for a Winchester 94 with a lot of patina and a lot of character this is it. This Winchester 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine was made in 1918, over 100 years ago and it looks like it really has some stories to tell. The Winchester Model 1894 lever-action repeater was introduced in 1894 and quickly earned a reputation for the being extremely reliable, well-made, and accurate. The '94 was a popular weapon all over the country, but it was particularly popular in the American West where cowboys and ranch hands routinely used them in their everyday lives. Today, the Winchester Model 1894 remains one of the most well-known and recognized rifles of all time. This particular example is serial number 839970 and as mentioned earlier, was made in 1918 at the end of World War 1. It is a Saddle Ring Carbine model with a 20" inch barrel and a smooth Walnut stock set. As you can see from the pictures, the original finish on this carbine shows a lot of wear and handling marks on the exterior. The receiver shows almost no blue finish at all, very common for Model 94's from this period as the finish did not adhere well to the steel and would flake off over time. The 20" inch barrel has a lot of original blue finish remaining, and all of the factory stamps and proofs are still clean and legible. The bore in this carbine is average, showing good rifling throughout but does have some shallow pitting in the grooves. The original stock set is still intact on this carbine and shows wear and tear consistent with the rest of the rifle. All of the original stock hardware is in place including the original steel buttplate. All of the controls on this Winchester are in perfect working order and the action locks up tight. We have no doubt it will function just as well today as it did the day it left the factory.
