Here we present a C&R City of San Antonio, Texas Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine, made in 1914 in New Haven, Connecticut. The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm again lies with John Moses Browning, who lent his extensive design talents to a large number of weapon types throughout his career. The Model 1894 was the first Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder and was developed as a hunting rifle. Over 7.5 million were produced from 1894 until 2006. While various cartridges were supported throughout the run of the gun, the .30-30 Winchester became its staple. In practical use, the Model 1894 became a favorite for general shooters and hunters alike. To this day, it remains a deer hunting favorite, and, in all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other.

Model 1894 carbines were also employed by various law enforcement in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. 10 Model 1894 saddle ring carbines were known to have been acquired by San Antonio in 1916, all of which were later sold to the same buyer in 1966: Western artist Donald M. Yena. This carbine was made earlier than the 10 listed as having sold to Mr. Yena but is marked in a similar fashion. 

The overall condition is very good. Original finish and patina. Saddle ring is absent. The action is excellent. The bore is in good condition, bright with worn but serviceable rifling. The stock shows use. There is a small chip that has formed on the underside of the forearm, just forward of the barrel band. Otherwise solid throughout.
