RARE DELUXE 1894 SADDLE RING CARBINE WITH CHECKERED PISTOL GRIP STOCK AND FOREND, MADE 1908

Description:
SUPER RARE DELUXE 1894 SADDLE RING CARBINE WITH CHECKERED PISTOL GRIP STOCK AND FOREND, .32 WS CALIBER, #400XXX, MADE 1908. Any special order features on carbines are scarce with pistol grips and checkering especially so. Usually when carbines were ordered with pistol grip stocks they were fitted with shotgun butt plates. Having a pistol grip with a carbine butt plate is doubly rare. This is a nice example with good thinning barrel blue, mag tube ageing to very thin blue to brown. The receiver is mostly gray with good blue on the loading gate. It has a three leaf express sight with all three leaves intact with typical blade carbine front sight. The forend is generally excellent with fine checkering showing only light wear. the butt stock shows only light handling with correct Winchester embossed grip cap and fine checkering. There is a wood repair around the upper tang on both sides in which one solid piece of wood was so expertly mated to the stock that I owned this rifle for some time and never even noticed it! The wood to metal fit is tight and whoever did the work was a master at his craft! Truly incredible. The bore is a bit dark, but not pitted with fine rifling all the way through, tight mech and strong springs and excellent screw heads. An attractive and rare 1894 carbine.
