SCARCE ERROR DATE BARREL Winchester Model 1894 SRC 32 WS Made 1907
Description: Winchester Model 1894 SRC in caliber 32 Winchester Special, serial number 372942, in the standard carbine configuration having a 20" round barrel with post front sight, full magazine, gumwood stocks, carbine butt, blued and case hardened finish, plain trigger, saddle ring on left side of receiver. This one happens to have the Special Smokeless rear sight designed specifically for the 32 Winchester Special caliber instead of the typical carbine ladder rear sight. Most likely ordered that way as the finish of the sight matches the finish on the barrel and seems to have been there from day one. What sets this apart from your common SRC is the factory error date barrel address. This occured in a narrow serial number range dating to 1906/1907 production, where the marking die was incorrectly made with the patent date showing "August 14, 1894" which is a combination of the correct Model 1894 date of August 21, 1894 and the October 14, 1884 date used on the Model 1892 guns. Roughly 75 examples of this error date address are known to exist. 5 are on extra lightweight rifles and the other 70 are on carbines. Personally, this is number 17 of the 70 for me as I'm always on the lookout for them (I've had at least one in every caliber of the Model 1894). This scarce factory error has been getting more known and more attention since it was addressed in Robert Renneberg's two versions of collectors' books on the Model 1894. CONDITION: Barrel retains 5% original blue with the rest drifted to a light patina. Magazine tube retains 40% original fine aged blue. Action is tight and crisp with a properly working half cock safety. Marbles 94-C front sight post has been added to the original factory post. Smokeless rear sight is slightly bent in at the ears and doesn't allow for elevation change. Stocks have never been cleaned or sanded and are void of extra holes. There are typically nicks, dings and abrasions from years of use but still tight to the metal in all spots except the toe of the butt/buttplate junction - slight loss from wear. Receiver is basically a light gray with some aged blue around the saddle ring, which is also a darker aged blue. Bore is a 7 of 10 with consistent rifling, no pitting, no craters, light wear and some grayness, should clean better, definitely will spin a bullet just fine. This is one of the most accurate calibers made for these lever guns. All said, this one grades NRA Modern Very Good and will make a good addition to your Winchester collection since not everyone will have a Model 1894 with an error date barrel. SHIPPING: Shipping to the Continental US States will be a flat $40 with insurance optional and additional if requested. We are registered with the CA DOJ and will ship to California! TERMS: No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii. Must ship to FFL or C&R license holder.
