Winchester 1894 Rifle SPECIAL ORDER Double set trigger, Caliber: .25-35 W.C.F.
Description: This lever action Winchester rifle Caliber: .25-35 W.C.F. was manufactured in 1910 with a full length tubular magazine and Special order double set-trigger. The left side of the barrel is marked: “MANUFACTURED BY WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.” beneath that “NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. PATENDED AUGUST 21 .1894 “and “——— NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER———. “ The top of the barrel at the receiver and the receiver are both marked with a circled “WP” proof. The underside of the receiver is marked with the serial number “537192” and the upper tang is marked:“MODLE 1894 WINCHESTER trade mark reg in u.s. pat. off.” The barrel length is this 26 inches, octagon. The front sight is dovetailed to a slotted in the barrel. The rear sight is the same and typical of Winchester. The stocks are 2-piece smooth walnut with a cap on the forend, straight grip, straight comb and steel crescent butt plate. The stocks have scattered light nicks, dings, and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition. Original blue finish. The bore is bright with very sharp rifling. This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish, thinning at all edges. The barrel and magazine tube have generally strong finish with some light wear. The receiver has mostly blue/brown patina with the lever about the same. The large tang screw looks to be a replacement, with other screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Good condition. The action functions correctly. The trigger is very light and crisp when set. The trigger is set by pushing forward on the rear trigger. When not set, the trigger has a smooth takeup, but is still crisp. The hammer has a half-cock safety. The lever lock up is good. The double set-trigger, is a special-order feature offered by the Winchester factory. This is an honest rifle that has seen over a century of use, yet still has a nice bore and strong mechanics. It would be perfect for throwing in the back window of your pick-up truck for use on coyotes and other varmints and it would also be a great deer rifle today, just as it was a 114 years ago. That said, with its special-order trigger and condition, it will also likely interest the Winchester collectors. 5 Boxes (20 Rounds each) of .25-.35 WIN included SOLD |
