WINCHESTER Model 1894 Lever Action .25-35 CARBINE
Description:
WINCHESTER Model 1894 Lever Action .25-35 CARBINE
Manufactured in 1917 in New Haven, Connecticut
Here we present a Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle, made in 1917 in New Haven, Connecticut. The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm again lies with John Moses Browning, who lent his extensive design talents to a large number of weapon types throughout his career. The Model 1894 was the first Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder and was developed as a hunting rifle. Over 7.5 million were produced from 1894 until 2006. While various cartridges were supported throughout the run of the gun, including this one in .25-35 WCF, the .30-30 Winchester became its staple. In practical use, the Model 1894 became a favorite for general shooters and hunters alike. To this day, it remains a deer hunting favorite, and, in all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other.
This Model 1894 sports a 20-inch round barrel chambered for .25-35 WCF. “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST, 21, 1894”. The rear of the barrel is marked “NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER”. “.25-30 W.C.F.”. The tang is marked “MODEL 1894/WINCHESTER/TRADEMARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.”.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good shape. The bore is clean with very good rifling. The action on this carbine is functional, though a bit stiff and the trigger return is currently not operating properly.
This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
