#4814 Winchester 1895 “Flatside” with rapid-taper Round barreled Sporting Rifle, 30 U.S. (30/40)

#4814 Winchester 1895 “Flatside” with rapid-taper Round barreled Sporting Rifle, 30 U.S. (30/40) caliber with Excellent bore (9) and smooth tight action. VERY early serial number in the 15XX range and almost certain to be in the 1st or 2nd year of production. The metal is excellent with no pitting of consequence and 95 %+ bright barrel blue, the receiver with about 80-85% slightly thinner blue. The factory checkered wood is also about Excellent, original standard “open” sights and has never been drilled for a receiver sight, as many seem to be found. Okay, that was the good stuff …now for the bad. It has factory proof marks which are indicative of some return to Winchester for repair and in my conservative opinion, it is likely that somewhere in this guns 120-year life span, it has had the barrel replaced for some unknown reason. However it’s a very, VERY fine and a very handsome early Flatside receiver, and if not for the proof marks, it would be a $4500+ gun. About Antique Excellent as described. $2495
