1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE, .30 ARMY (.30-40 KRAG) CALIBER, #95XXX, MADE 1914

Description:
1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE, .30 ARMY (.30-40 KRAG) CALIBER, #95XXX, MADE 1914. An attractive example with fancier than standard walnut in the butt stock showing some nice fiddle back grain (possibly chosen by a Winchester employee for himself or a friend). The receiver shows good aged blue on the lower portion of the right side and around the saddle ring, as well as dull blue on the magazine. Fine deep blue on most of the bolt, excellent markings on the receiver side and upper tang with no extra holes. The barrel retains most of the orginal deep blue and is fitted with the correct ladder rear sight with small Marble 14 Sheard marked carbine blade front sight. Generally excellent wood with tight wood to metal fit shows light handling only. Correct butt plate with sliding trap door for cleaning rods. Matching handguard has a narrow, well executed, sharp sided square groove behind the rear sight to make sighting easier. So well executed it might be factory done, but no way to tell. Tight action with solid safety half-cock on the hammer. Bore is a little dark with strong rifling all the way through and any corrosion exctremely light and surface. An attractive '95 carbine with unusual wood. These are getting hard to find especially with handguards intact.
