HIGH CONDITION 1895 TAKEDOWN RIFLE, .30-06, #419XXX, MADE 1923
Description: HIGH CONDITION 1895 TAKEDOWN RIFLE, .30-06, #419XXX, MADE 1923. This is a really excellent late example that retains nearly all the deep barrel blue with only the lightest of handling marks. The receiver shows some typical small amount of flaking which is typical for all Winchester lever guns made during this time. The majority of the flaking is on the right side of the receiver toward the rear plus a little scattered flaking around the takedown ring, a little on the extreme bottom of the lever loop and just a touch around the rear of the receiver sight and upper tang. All sounds worse than it is. The balance of the receiver shows exc. deep blue- even on the bottom of the trigger guard bow, the butt plate and the entire magazine. It is fitted with a desirable Lyman 38 receiver sight (the securing lever has all the parts, but appears a little loose and probably just needs some tightening) and an ivory bead front sight. The rear dovetail has a filler blank. The stock and forend are nearly perfect showing only the lightest of handling. The forend has the correct Winchester ebony wedge inlay in the tip. It is fitted with correct detachable sling swivel studs- I have seen these on similar 1920s vintage rifles. The action and takedown are tight, the safety half-cock holds correctly, and the bore is minty bright and sharp. A really fine 103 year old 1895 in a desirable caliber and scarce as a takedown.
