Winchester Model 1895 .405 WCF - 1927, THE MEDICINE GUN FOR LIONS, STUNNING, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1927, .405 WCF, 8lb 15oz, Chokes, LOP 13 1/8" Serial Number: 420201 The Winchester Model 1895 rifle is most commonly associated today with former President Theodore Roosevelt. When Mr. Roosevelt embarked on his 1909 African safari he took along two Winchester 1895s both chambered in .405 WCF. He praised the Model 1895 in his book African Game Trails, referring to his rifle as "the medicine gun for lions." The last of the lever actions to be designed by John Browning, the 1895 was the first Winchester to use a box magazine located beneath the action instead of the more common tube magazine making it safe to use the modern spitzer type bullets. At the time of its introduction the 1895 was considered the strongest of the lever actions and well capable handling the heaviest military and hunting rounds of the day. Just over four hundred thousand 1895 in various calibers where produced with manufacturing ending in 1940. This Winchester Model 1895 is an exceptional example of the classic 1895 chambered for the powerful .405 WCF. It has been expertly re-finished and features a stunning package with its beautifully figured stock and forend with Schnabel tip, perfect checkering, perfect screws and a crisp trigger pull of 2.5lb. This magnificent gun is ready for its day at the range or in the Veld, Enjoy.
