Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action in .35 WCF Caliber **Mfg 1908 - Very Nice Condition**
Description:
Here we have a Winchester Model 1895 lever action rifle chambered in .35 WCF caliber. The first Model 1895 was the first Winchester rifle to feature a box magazine that is located underneath the action instead of the tubular magazine design, which had remained fundamentally unchanged from the Winchester 1866. This allowed the rifle to safely chamber military and hunting cartridges with spitzer (pointed) bullets. The M1895 was also the last of the lever-action rifles to be designed by John Browning, and featured a rear locking bolt as in his previous designs dating back to the Winchester 1886. The M1895 is the strongest lever-action rifle Winchester has produced, designed to handle the increased pressures generated by the more powerful smokeless powder cartridges entering common use at the time of its introduction. The Model 1895 was produced from 1896 to 1940, with over 425,000 produced. It was both a commercial and military success, with the U.S. and Russian Governments purchasing 1895's for their militaries. During the long production run of the Winchester Model 1895 there were multiple variations made and they are very collectible today. This particular example is an 1895 rifle model chambered in the 35 WCF cartridge. It is serial number 58109 which makes it's date of production 1908. This rifle is in very good physical and mechanical condition. It has some thinning of the finish in spots and a few areas that have lost much of the finish. Based on the worn areas it appears to have gone in and out of a scabbard. There is some wear at the muzzle. The 24 inch barrel still has very strong rifling. The wood is in very nice condition with just a few light pressure marks but no cracks or chips. The forend is accented with an ebony insert. This fine Winchester would make a great addition to an existing collection or a strong start to a new collection.
