Description: 1913 mfg. WINCHESTER M1903 .22 WIN Auto Rifle C&R Set Up for MAXIM SILENCER First Commercially Available Winchester Semi-Auto Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1903 semi-automatic rifle manufactured in 1913 in New Haven, Connecticut. This one has the muzzle device that enabled one to put a Maxim Silencer on the gun. Original ads of the day featured this particular model saying “Shoot Without Noise”! The Winchester Model 1903 was the first commercially available semi-automatic firearm made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The Model 1903 is a blowback-operated, semi-automatic rifle produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company beginning in 1903 with production ending in 1932 with a total of 126,000 rifles produced. The tubular magazine located in the buttstock holds 10 cartridges. The Winchester Model 1903 was designed by T.C. Johnson, who had joined Winchester in 1885 and had become nationally known as an inventor of successful rifles. As is this rifle, it was first chambered for the .22 Winchester Automatic cartridge. In late 1918 to early 1919, Winchester eliminated the “18” and “19” from the model names of all of the various models that were in active production, so the Model 1903 moniker was shortened to Model 03, and following a partial redesign in the 1930s, was renamed the Model 63. In addition to other changes, the Model 63 fired the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. This cartridge was more popular than the .22 Winchester Automatic cartridge and was demanded by customers. The Model 63 was first available for purchase in 1933 and remained in production until 1958. Production totaled approximately 175,000 Model 63 rifles. The overall condition is very good+. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The walnut stock shows use and remains solid.
