FULL DELUXE MODEL 53 TAKEDOWN, CHECKERED FANCY WALNUT PISTOL GRIP RIFLE
Description: ALMOST NEVER SEEN FULL DELUXE MODEL 53 TAKEDOWN, CHECKERED FANCY WALNUT PISTOL GRIP RIFLE IN .25-20 CALIBER, #3XX MADE FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION 1924! The Model 53 was only made from 1924-1932 (with parts cleanup rifles assembled in very limited numbers until World War II). .25-20 was considered the standard caliber, yet only 16,905 were made in that caliber before the model was killed off by the Great Depression. Very few semi-deluxe or full deluxe Model 53s were made. This example is the ultra rare FULL DELUXE WITH SUPER RARE CRESCENT BUTT PLATE, extra fancy walnut stock and forend, pistol grip with correct Winchester embossed hard rubber grip cap, correctly mounted in stock and forend cap early "hook eye" sling swivel studs, checkered pistol grip and forend, takedown, Marbles tang sight, Marbles buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Marbles Sheard blade/bead front sight. The receiver shows fine blue on the side panels with heavy edge wear to gray from normal carrying along with gray on the receiver bottom and thinning blue on the bolt. Fine blue on the loading gate and fine screws with one replacement screw on the right side. Excellent stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit and only lightly worn and still fairly sharp checkering overall. Unusual forend checkering with an open diamond in the bottom. Fine barrel blue with some minor scuffs/wear spots, excellent markings, no extra holes under the tang sight, tight action and minty bore. Being a n early first year production rifle, this fancy deluxe example may have been a salesman's sample. Winchester often produced a few deluxe "showy" rifles in the first year to attract attention to a new model. You can look for one of these for years and not find one.
