Very Nice Winchester Model 53 25-20 WCF Takedown Rifle
Description:
For your consideration is this very nice condition Winchester Model 53 rifle in caliber 25-20 WCF and is the takedown version, a little harder to come by than the solid frame versions. This rifle is serialized in the 1892 series (its parent model), serial # 997xxx, manufactured approximately 1929. Standard 22" round barrel exhibits about 95% original blue with a few light scratches on top near the front sight. Mag tube extension and takedown lever retain just about all of their original blue. Receiver shows the typical flaking experienced during this time period but still has some areas of the deep, dark blue on the hammer, lever, lower tang, and around some of the receiver screws. Underside of receiver and takedown flange have silvered out and are starting to turn patina. Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, no extra swivel holes or abuse and retain about 95% of their original varnish. They do show some usage and scuffing that occured a long time ago as they have darkened with age. Original serrated steel buttplate intact. Takedown is super tight and does not have any wobble. No marring to barrel so I don't think the takedown function has been performed many times at all. Original sights include the series 22 flat top sporting rear with thumbprint elevator and Lyman bead front sight in the correct ramped front sight/dovetail standard to this model. Bore is excellent with sharp rifling, no frosting, no pitting, bright and shiny, doesn't seem to have been shot much. Action is butter-smooth, half-cock safety seems to funtioning normally, and it should be a great shooter upon inspection by a competent gunsmith. Not many of these model 53s were made and to find one that exhibits this kind of condition does not happen too often.
