Winchester Model 54 .30-06
Description:
Our research indicates that this Model 54 was manufactured in 1928 making this rifle one of approximately 5400 Model 54s made that year.
The rifle appears to be in all original condition with the exception of a replaced rear swing swivel stud. The rear bridge has not been drilled or tapped and the rifle maintains its Lyman WJS rear sight. It also maintains the original aperture. This rifle also has an unaltered 2-stage trigger that was original to the rifle's design.
We have found the bore to be clean and shiny, with muzzle gauge indicating zero erosion.
We find no cracks, chips, or gouges in the wood. The wood appears to be proud of the metal, meaning that it does not appear to be sanded.
The receiver shows an exceptional amount of original bluing as does the barrel with one exception. It would look as if a dime-sized spot of corrosion in front sight boss and just above the Nickle Steel roll stamp was somewhat aggressively cleaned. This should be seen in the photos.
54s are quite difficult to find, having been the predecessor to the Model 70, and manufactured in such low numbers.
