VERY FINE CONDITION MODEL 55 TAKEDOWN RIFLE, .32 WS CALIBER, #6XXX, MADE 1927
Description: VERY FINE CONDITION MODEL 55 TAKEDOWN RIFLE, .32 WS CALIBER, #6XXX, MADE 1927. The Model 55 was introduced in 1924 when the standard Model 1894 rifle was discontinued. When the stock marked crashed in 1929 and the Great Depression began, production slowed and sales were limited compared to the earlier years of the Model ‘94 and new Model 55. By 1935 production ceased for the Model 55 and only parts guns were assembled after that date. The M-55 is actually a more scarce Winchester than most collectors realize. This example retains nearly all the deep factory blue on the receiver with only some minor light freckling. Even the forend cap and upper tang retain most of the blue. Exc. barrel and mag. blue. The butt stock has some long scratches in the right side and some to a lesser degree on the left side. They are fairly shallow and could be carefully removed, or just left as is. The balance of the stock and forend are excellent with tight wood to metal fit. Correct original serrated steel butt plate, exc. screw heads, tight action, strong safety half-cock and minty bright bore. Flat top buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and correct short base front sight containing a small blade/bead. Tight takedown with only some blue thinning on the takedown ring. Made the year Charles Lindbergh made the first flight across the Atlantic!
