Description:
The Winchester Model 61 Hammerless .22 pump-action rifle is one of the true classic rimfire rifles that Winchester manufactued. Available in many different configurations and several .22 chamberings, the Model 61 was a huge success for Winchester and the rifle quickly earned a reputation for being a well-made and reliable weapon capable of excellent accuracy. The design is sleek and streamlined with classic good looks, and the hidden hammer was an excellent design feature. Winchester introduced the Model 61 in 1932 and manufactured approx. 350,000 of these rifles until being discontinued in 1963. This particular example is serial number 176906 and was manufactured during the Korean War in 1953. It is in excellent 100% original condition and appears to have spent most of it's life in storage. The original factory blue finish rates 96% with only some very minor handling marks and spots of light finish wear where parts of the rifle make contact with each other when the action is worked. You can see the clean and consistent look of the rifle in the pictures provided. The blue finish still shows glossy and deep color. The receiver is factory grooved for mounting a scope but this example has never had a scope mounted on it. The grooves are in mint condition. The bore in this Model 61 is minty and bright. The rifling looks new with sharp lands and grooves in the rifling. There is no pitting or erosion visible whatsoever. The original American Walnut stock set is beautiful. It is free from cracks or repairs and shows 97% of the factory applied varnish. Only under very close inspection can one find any very minor handling/storage marks in the wood. The factory checkered and blued metal buttplate is still in place, in excellent condition, and tight to the wood. Everything on this Winchester Model 61 works 100% like the day it left the factory. All of the controls function perfectly. If you have been looking for a superb example of this American classic to add to your collection, here is your chance.
