SMOOTHBORE WINCHESTER MODEL 61 RIFLE "FOR SHOT ONLY
Description:
24 inch counter-bored Smoothbore round barrel with a No. 81 bead front sight. Chambered in caliber 22 Long Rifle and has a bright shiny bore. A good amount of blue remains on all metal surfaces with some light freckling. Mechanics are fine except for a stuck safety. 17-groove flat bottom walnut slide and plain walnut stock are in very good condition with some light handling mars and a checkered steel shotgun butt plate. Winchester drawings dated back to1940 indicate that their engineers had developed a counter-bored barrel. Apparently they were satisfied with it's performance as they stopped producing the Routledge bore and used their own Shot barrel for the remainder of the Model 61 production. This is a first Postwar variation rifle with the non-matted smooth top receiver and was made in 1954. A hard gun to find that will fill a hole in your collection!
