Description:
SELDOM SEEN MODEL 65 IN .32-20 CALIBER, VERY HIGH SERIAL NUMBER AND PROBABLY ONE OF THE VERY LAST MADE BY WINCHESTER, #1006XXX. Only 1277 Model 65s were made in .32-20 (less than .25-20 or .218 Bee) and production which began in 1933 and production ceased in 1941 with only 5717 rifles being produced (with the Great Depression in full swing, this was a terrible time to offer a new model!). By the end of 1941 serial numbers for the Model 1892 and Model 65 (numbered together) reached 1004675. This rifle is numbered 2000 higher which indicates this was probably one of the last of the parts clean-up Model 65 rifles to leave the Winchester factory and may have been one of a handful assembled with Pre-War parts and actually sold after World War II. Fine deep barrel blue with excellent correct markings and standard open sights. The receiver shows fine blue with wear to the bottom and some wear on the left side of the receiver lower forward edge. Excellent butt stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit and correct checkered steel butt plate. This one is fitted with a Lyman receiver sight. Action is tight and the bore is minty bright.
