1951 Vintage Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 chambered in .22 Hornet ** Original & All Correct !! **
Description:
This is an honest all-original pre-64 Winchester Model 70 chambered in .22 Hornet. With only a total of 20,306 produced, the .22 Hornet Model 70 has become quite the collectors item and are seldom-seen for sale in original condition. This particular rifle is serial number 184765 and was made in 1951. The pre-64 Winchester Model 70's are considered one of the finest American-made rifles of all-time, and are sought-after by collectors and shooters alike today. Introduced by Winchester in 1937, the Model 70 was offered in 18 calibers and three barrel lengths of 24", 25", or 26" inches, with a 5 or 4-shot (magnum calibers) internal box magazine in a checkered Walnut pistol-grip stock. The Model 70 action was based off of the 98 Mauser action and featured controlled-round feeding and a full-length extractor, an extremely strong, accurate, and reliable design. Advertised by Winchester as "The Rifleman's Rifle", the Model 70 quickly earned a reputation for being THE top-of-the-line bolt-action repeating rifle. This .22 Hornet example retains its original blue finish across the entirety of the barreled action. The gloss blue on the barrel is in very great condition, with light muzzle wear, a small strip of wear along the bottom of the barrel, and scattered very light handling marks. The matte blue factory finish on the receiver and bolt handle is intact and has a nice consistent clean look to it for its age, with the only noticeable wear on the bolt handle knob and receiver high edges. The gloss blue factory finish on the triggerguard and floorplate still looks great, with the with the majority of wear along the high edges of the trigger guard and a small handful of light handling marks/scratches. The bore in this Model 70 is bright, with sharp rifling, and shows no signs of imperfections or mishandling. The factory original stock on this rifle is in great shape overall with no signs of cracking or chipping, just various light handling marks and a minuscule amount of light pressure marks. The hand-cut checkering is still nicely defined and clean, without any major wear or damage. The factory-installed sling swivels are still in place on this Winchester and in good condition. All of the controls and functions on this Winchester are in perfect working order. The action is smooth and precise, turning into battery with no wiggle or slop. The trigger on this Model 70 is excellent, breaking like a glass rod with a medium-light pull with no grit or excessive travel. Known as the "most faked" variation of the Model 70, we stand behind this rifle being original and correct. We have carefully disassembled the rifle and cross-referenced multiple books on the Winchester Model 70 to make sure that this rifle is correct and original. The chambered has NOT been converted to K-Hornet like many of the other similar rifles for sale.
