Custom Winchester .270 WCF Model 70 Rifle

Description:
Pre-War Winchester Model 70 barreled-action restocked by Clayton Nelson (probably).

The rifle was in a group of custom rifles made by Clayton Nelson who, more times than not, neglected to mark rifles he made. 

This rifle is based on a pre-war barrel and action with clover leaf shaped tang, two-panel checkered bolt knob, a jeweled bolt body and ejection port, a pre-war style safety, and original Winchester two-piece bottom metal. Original Winchester 24" barrel markings and front sight. Rear sight dovetail is filled with a flat blank. The metal is finished in a rust blue.

Action is drilled and tapped and topped with Leupold rotary bases and 1" medium rings. 

This rifle has a 13 1/2" LOP over a thin curved Pachmayr pad and is stocked in a nicely figured piece of English walnut that is oil finished with a RH beaded cheekpiece, two "Supergrade" style inletted sling swivels, wrap checkering over the grip and on the forend with an ebony forend tip, and a smooth steel two-screw grip cap. 

The rifle weighs 8 lbs 7 oz and remains in good conditon as restocked but I belive blue is original on metal. Bore is good, metal's blue is a lttle thin on the barrels and some freckling on the floor plate and trigger guard.

Overall a nice rifle.
